As soon as you have orders
- Contact your installation's housing office at the new base. Ask about on-base waitlists and their off-base referral list.
- Look up your 2026 BAH for the new duty station.
- If you're renting now, give your landlord SCRA notice. See how it works.
- Contact your installation's transportation office to schedule your household goods move.
60 days out
- Shortlist neighborhoods by commute to your gate, not just distance.
- Book video tours; ask each landlord about a military clause, lease lengths and pet rules.
- Gather documents: orders, LES, ID, references, pet records.
30 days out
- Sign a lease, ideally with a military clause, and get it reviewed by legal assistance if you can.
- Set up utilities and internet for your move-in date.
- Confirm dates for your temporary lodging if there's a gap.
Arrival week
- Check in with the housing office (often required before you can draw BAH at the new rate).
- Do a move-in inspection with photos and save them.
- Update your address with finance, the post office and your vehicle registration.
Every move is different. Plan My Move builds a checklist for your specific orders.
